Maths practice for 13 year olds

8th grade is typically attended by students who are 13–14 years old, marking their final year of middle school (or junior high) before transitioning to high school (9th–12th grade).

In 8th grade in the U.S., students typically study:

1. Algebra – Solving linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations, and introduction to functions (linear and quadratic).
2. Geometry – Pythagorean theorem, transformations (translations, reflections, rotations), and volume/surface area of 3D shapes.
3. Statistics & Probability – Analyzing scatter plots, linear models, and basic probability (independent/dependent events).
4. Number Sense – Working with exponents, scientific notation, and irrational numbers (like √2 or π).

Some states also introduce early pre-algebra or foundational algebra concepts to prepare for high school math.
